The Lao Buddhist Temple in Broomfield was destroyed by a fire last December. Struck by an online outpouring of support from their friends, students Joie Ha and Leo Tsuo decided they wanted to lend a hand, too.
“The Laotian community here is very small,” Ha says, “and I knew they would need a lot of help to rebuild.”
So Ha and Tsuo organized Project Renew: Lao Temple Fundraiser, an all-ages, all-welcome, culture-crossing celebration of dance featuring dancers from around the state on Saturday, February 18.
Representing hip-hop, choreographers Hype 303, Machinez Remainz, Soundless Flow and America’s Best Dance Crew competitors BreakEFX will be on hand to strut their stuff in the name of charity. Bringing other cultural dance styles to the floor will be Indian Mudra Dance Studio, Japanese drummers Denver Taiko and the temple’s own youth program, the Wannakhadee Group.

Project Renew: Lao Buddhist Temple Benefit goes down from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Saturday, February 18, at the Davis Auditorium in Sturm Hall at the University of Denver, 2101 South University Boulevard.
