Doing improv at a family theater isn’t easy. Performers have to keep their mouths and their ideas in check so as not to accidentally offend anyone. The Fillers have been doing this for the past five years at Bovine Metropolis, but with a new show, The Fillers — A Comedy Improv Show Uncensored, at a new theater, they’re hoping to let loose, at least a little bit.

“The Bovine is a family-friendly theater,” says Fillers performer Linnea Brutlag. “The Avenue lets us do whatever we want.” That might sound a little scary to longtime fans of the group, but Brutlag promises that they haven’t suddenly found a love for smut: “We won’t be going completely dirty, but it’ll be more adult-oriented.”
For this performance, the ten-piece group will utilize its long-form improv skill to provide an extended experience based more on storytelling than game. Another improv group, Intentionally Left Blank, will open the show with a short set.

The show goes off at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Avenue Theater, 417 East 17th Avenue; admission is $10. For more information and to pre-purchase tickets, call 303-321-5925 or visit www.avenuetheater.com.
