How much can you learn about a topic from a five-minute presentation? Quite a lot, if the presenter is smart, passionate and inspired to stay on target by slides that automatically advance every fifteen seconds. See it in action tonight at Ignite Boulder 12, where speakers will present on everything from life lessons learned as a childs’ librarian to why an alien visit may be humanity’s only hope for survival. In between these wide-ranging, geek-friendly presentations will be a performance by John Common and opportunities to socialize.
“As a theme, we will be asking all attendees to make awkward conversation with at least twelve strangers,” says Ef Rodriguez, one of the organizers. “But the chief allure is the speakers — compelling topics and some new, velvety voices.”
And if you aren’t sure that a series of nerd-tacular five-minute presentations is quite for you, Rodriguez explains that Ignite is for everyone who’s passionate about anything. “Ignite Boulder is welcoming, like a doormat with personality. We foster passion by encouraging people to share theirs with an audience,” he says.
Ignite Boulder 12 starts at 7 p.m. in Chautauqua Auditorium, 900 Baseline Road in Boulder; tickets are $10. For more info, including a list of presentations, and to purchase tickets, visit www.igniteboulder.com
