“I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good-looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.” — Derek Zoolander
There’s a lot more we can learn from Zoolander besides the fact that Derek Zoolander is ridiculously good-looking. For example: “A male model’s life is a precious, precious commodity. Just because we have chiseled abs and stunning features, it doesn’t mean that we, too, can’t not die in a freak gasoline-fight accident.”
Yes, Zoolander is one of those movies you can watch over and over again, but if you need a little extra incentive to head up to Red Rocks Amphitheatre tonight for its debut at Film on the Rocks, then perhaps you’d like to sign up for the World’s Largest Guitar Lesson, at 5:30 p.m. Currently, the largest lesson boasts 1,377 participants, but because Red Rocks can hold 8,400 people, Swallow Hill (which is organizing the competition) should be able to blow that record out of the water. You can register online now at www.swallowhillmusic.org or on-site; bring your guitar and a photo ID to make sure your note counts.
Or perhaps the World’s Fiercest Walk-Off is more your style. It remains to be seen whether anyone can best Derek’s own Blue Steel, but it’ll be fun to see them try.
The entertainment starts at 6 p.m., and Zoolander screens at dusk (about 9 p.m.). Film on the Rocks tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door; visit www.denverfilm.org for information, and get your tickets at www.redrocksonline.com or 1-866-464-2626.
