“The show is just a full-blown celebration of all things mod, retro and mid-century,” says Denver Modernism Show organizer Dana Cain. “It’s a huge, mod, mid-century lovefest.” And there will be a lot to love at the show, which runs today through Sunday. The National Western Complex will be filled with vintage mid-century design, as well as current modern design celebrating that style, by everyone from local unknowns to the California-based, Warhol-influenced Josh Agle (aka Shag).
In addition to design displays, the three-day event will feature today’s Miss Modernism Pageant, the Motorama Car Show on Sunday, an after-hours tour of Casa Bonita and Lakeside Amusement Park, and more. “My main hope is that everybody has a fantastic time and finds something there that they absolutely love and can’t live without,” says Cain. “There’s something for everybody, and you can literally go out there and spend $5 on something amazing or $5,000 on something amazing.”
And if you’re not in a buying mood, you can still just see something amazing for the cost of an $8, one-day ticket. The National Western is at 4655 Humboldt Street; doors to the Modernism Show open at 6 p.m. tonight (tickets are $20 for this preview evening, which includes three-day show admission), 10 a.m. tomorrow and 11 a.m. Sunday.
