Morgan Adams died in the same month that I brought my adopted daughter home from China. She also attended the school where my kid, now a third-grader, is a student, a joyful place where Morgan’s memory still quietly walks the halls, padding through the hearts and minds of students and faculty. The victim of an insidious brain tumor with an unpronounceable name, Morgan at least has a more tangible legacy: the Morgan Adams Memorial Neuro-Oncology fund, which raises money for pediatric cancer research at the Children’s Hospital.
It’s a sad beginning, but there’s no reason not to smile at the foundation’s first annual Comedy Night Benefit, an event destined to join the artma Art Auction and Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance as a worthy money-maker for an even more worthy cause. The fundraiser features national comic Brian Kellen (George Lopez’s preferred opening act) along with local talent George McClure and others, on stage at the Comedy Works, 1226 15th Street, starting at 8 p.m. That’s some powerful medicine.
