Kim Robards Dance has settled in at its new home in the Aurora Cultural Arts Center, and to celebrate, the company is throwing a free benefit tonight called Ignite the Light, featuring a performance of its new work, Aurora. Presented in three movements, the show is both a celebration of life and a remembrance of last year’s theater shootings. Like other Robards shows, it exhibits both athleticism and powerful emotional content.

“The second section is a stark representation of the unimaginable happening at Century Theatre and the shock of our daily routine interrupted by tragic events interspersed with heroic acts,” explains associate executive director LaRana Skalicky. “This second movement is an abstract yet direct comment on this unforgettable day. The third movement reflects the miraculous ability of the human spirit to transcend our challenges and reclaim our joy.”

Party attire is requested, and adding a hint of aqua blue — the official color of the City of Aurora — to your ensemble is suggested. Kim Robards Dance is at 9990 East Colfax Avenue in Aurora. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for free drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and the performance starts at 7:30. For more information, visit kimrobardsdance.org.
