If you’re looking for Greg Warren while he’s in town for a five-night stand at the Comedy Works downtown, there’s an excellent chance you’ll find him at the Cheesecake Factory on the 16th Street Mall. “I talk a lot about restaurants because I eat two or three meals a day in restaurants,” Warren says. “One I really like is the Cheesecake Factory, which I will probably go to in Denver three or four times — because everything’s always the same at every Cheesecake Factory. I mean, no matter what, they’re always going to offer you cheesecake. You could have a giant button that says ‘I Have Diabetes,’ they’re still going to offer you the cheesecake.
“I don’t even like cheesecake,” he adds.
It’s the consistency of the routine, perhaps, that provides some respite from a life of near-constant touring for Warren, whose material has been drifting lately toward his embitterment at being 42 years old, single and “running out of time.” He also devotes a fair amount of time to the “one-star people” he runs into on the road; that designation is basically a nice way of saying “white trash.”
