If you spend your evenings discussing the what-ifs of art, the possibility of another dimension of existence or what visual would happen if a demon gypsy had a love-child with an ethereal goddess, then you should have been at Cirque Voltaire this weekend — unless you were one of the 500 other people that were.
Gathering performers, visual artists and musicians inspired by the unknown and abnormal, Brandan Styles and Ellie Rusinova organized Denver’s first Surreal Circus extravaganza at The Meadowlark, and it lived up to its name.
Along with showcasing their own art, the ringleaders gathered their acts from far and wide. The three-night art show kicked off on Friday with fire dancers, the mentalist Professor Phelyx, the OFM Samurai Demons and, of course, heavy beats from the Whomp Truck.
“Denver needs these events,” said Styles. “The artists came out of the woodwork to make this event come to life.”
