Silhouette Theatre Company takes on religion and big business in the Denver premiere of Craig Wright’s Grace, a volatile tragicomedy that brings together an entrepreneurial bible-quoting couple, their disfigured neighbor and a German exterminator in the deconstruction of a murder scene. Directed by company founder Paul Jaquith, with actors Andy Anderson, Lisa Kraai, Joe Von Bokern and Joey Wishnia.

Bas Bleu kicks off its new season with a short run of David Rush’s short play Great Goddess Bazaar, featuring award-winning actor Tammy Meneghini’s personality-shifting portrayal of nine distinct women. Described by the company as “Desperate Housewives with a twist,” the play is here for only five performances, beginning with a preview on Friday.

The Arvada continues its love affair with big musicals with Memphis on the Main Stage, bringing the birth of rock and roll to life in a nonstop revue of song and dance. Featuring music and lyrics by Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan and a book by Joe DiPietro, Memphis is based on actual events and includes some mature subject matter and violence. Start the fall with some kick-ass drama — that you can dance to.

Another Fort Collins-based company, OpenStage, greets the 2014-2015 season with Journey to the West, a folkloric retelling of the Chinese Monkey King legend, which follows Buddhist monk Tripitaka and his band in their search for the secrets of immortality and enlightenment. Expect magical happenings, beautiful costumes and 81 ordeals! The FAB Friday performance on September 12 comes with a beer from Odell Brewing Co., for only $15. Now, that’s a journey — to the north — worth taking.
