Whether you ride a pimped-out Harley or drive a 1983 rusted Dodge, you’re invited to partake in Dogs, Hogs & Rods. It’s the second annual poker run/rally/car show to benefit Table Mountain Animal Center, and this year, organizers are throwing in a dog walk, too.
During a traditional poker run, participants pick a card at each of five stops, and whoever has the best hand at the end wins. In this version, while the hogs and rods chase that hand through the foothills, from Evergreen to Lookout Mountain, those with (or without) dogs can do a one-mile mini-run on foot. Both start and end at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, where there will be a party with live bands, a car show and — of course — animals for adoption.
“Table Mountain is the third-largest animal center and adoption facility in the state,” says Ben Drotar, director of marketing and development. “It handles more than 10,000 animals annually.”
Poker hands are $25; prizes include a stay at Fortune Valley Casino in Central City. Register for the run or walk online at www.tablemountainanimals.org or starting at 8 a.m. at the fairgrounds, 15200 West Sixth Avenue.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $20,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
