California-based political satirist Will Durst calls himself an equal-opportunity offender and a bi-partisan smartass; he once quipped that Democrats have less traction than a roller-skating giraffe on ice, and dissed the president by saying that a puppy-eating cobra could keep higher ratings in the polls. It’s no wonder, then, that Durst has once again been invited to perform as a fundraiser for KGNU Community Radio.
“Will is just such a perfect match for us,” says Joanne Cole, community-relations coordinator for KGNU, “because he really gets to the heart of the matter. And he’s just funny as hell. George Bush provides some laughs in a very sick sort of way, but I can’t say it enough: There’s just not enough comedy in the world. We need some more laughs, and Will is a very good political analyst — no one is left unscathed.”
KGNU broadcasts at 88.5 FM in Boulder and 1390 AM in Denver. Durst performs tonight at the Republic of Boulder, 1095 Canyon Boulevard, and tomorrow at the Skylark Lounge, 140 South Broadway in Denver. Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for KGNU members and $15 for the general public. Get more information at www.kgnu.org or 303-449-4885.
