Independent Journalism in Denver Needs You
We need to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
It’s an election year, which means most of us are a little irate, and Second City comic duo Frank Caeti and Matt Craig — known together as FrankenMatt — are no exception. So Caeti, formerly of MADTV, and Craig, an alum of Saturday Night Live‘s writing team, are taking that angst on the road with American Imperil, a series of skits and improvisational sketches satirizing the way things are in this country right now.
In addition to lampooning American hypocrisy, greed and indifference, Caeti and Craig also invented a fake politician, whom they use to skewer real ones. And according to Craig, “We’re as hard on the people we agree with as we are on the people we disagree with.” The comedy, he adds, should be like “those cherry-flavored medicines” for kids: They make the bitter stuff go down easier.
American Imperil runs today and tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Voodoo Comedy Playhouse, 1260 22nd Street. Tickets are $14 in advance and $16 at the door; get more information at www.voodoocomedy.com or 303-578-0079.
