We Jews are known for moving. Throughout history, we’ve always been on pilgrimages or in states of exile; we travel to escape persecution and journey to promised lands. Intrinsic to our culture, the act and consequence of our movement provided the no-brainer theme for a brainy film series hosted by the University of Denver’s Center for Judaic Studies. Jews on the Move: Pilgrimage, Migration, Refuge and Return will explore issues of the Jewish Diaspora this month with weekly documentary screenings and discussions, beginning tonight at 7 p.m. with director Pearl Gluck and her film Divan, about her search for a couch purportedly slept upon by a Hasidic rabbi in Hungary.
Screenings continue at the same time Wednesdays through January 31 in Davis Auditorium, Sturm Hall, 2040 South Race Street on the DU campus; admission is free, but reservations are appreciated. To register, or for a complete schedule, call 303-871-3660 or visit www.du.edu/cjs.
