When driving through Colorado, you’ll always see random strange stuff in the mountains, whether it’s rocks on the road, steam rising from a not-quite-frozen creek on a super cold day, or a simple scene that defies easy explanation. Such is the case with this weird little scene in the mountains just south of Fairplay.
I first spied this pickup on my way to Monarch in February, as part of a three-day southwest skiing trip. Last week, on the way to Crested Butte for the Telemark Extreme Freeskiing Championships and Al Johnson Uphill/Downhill Race, it was still there, buried in the snow, looking like a forsaken friend left in the snow, which accumulated and partially buried it.
You’ve just got to wonder what would lead a pickup to stay buried in the snow for over a month, and how it got there in the first place. What stories could it tell?
Seeing it, I was strangely reminded of disaster flick “The Day After Tomorrow,” which obviously inspired the caption. If you come up with a better one, it will become the title for this blog, so comment away.
