They missed Mardi Gras by a few months, but the folks at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art are still going to party Carnaval-style at tonight’s Festival Brazil. “It’s for our two spring exhibitions,” explains museum spokeswoman Jordan Robbins. “One artist, Henrique Oliveira, created a site-specific sculpture and seven paintings that are in our downstairs gallery; the other exhibition is titled Jessica Moon Bernstein: Ourruberos, and that’s a site-specific installation using recycled bike tires and chicken wire.”
Because Oliveira is a Brazilian artist, Robbins says, the museum decided to put together a Brazilian-themed festival for the closing reception. “Because both the exhibitions involve site-specific installations, those will never be on view again,” she notes. “It’s a nice opportunity to celebrate those and have one last viewing.”
There will be a film screening, costume-making activities, Brazilian music and heavy hors d’oeuvre (Brazilian-themed, of course). The party runs from 7 p.m. to midnight and is free to attend. BMoCA is at 1750 13th Street in Boulder; call 303-443-2122 or visit www.bmoca.org.
