’Tis the season for jolly men in fake white beards and red costumes, and you can see a whole slew of them if you head to the mountains. Bundled-up Santas are all over Colorado resorts right now. “It’s a good time for families to get together,” says Colorado Ski Country’s Craig Bannister. “If you’ve got young kids and you want to get up to the mountains, it’s the perfect time of year for it.”
Santa is the star at a variety of holiday-themed events across the high country through Christmas. Today he’ll drop by Snowmass, where kids can put in their last-minute holiday gift requests with the man himself while having their pictures taken. Santa will also be at Crested Butte Mountain Resort on Christmas Eve, riding down the mountain at 4:30 p.m. in a snowcat-pulled sleigh while he hands out candy canes; the Crested Butte Ski and Ride School’s torchlight parade follows.
The jolly old elf is also scheduled to make appearances at Arapahoe Basin, Snowmass Village, Eldora Mountain Resort, Loveland Ski Area, Monarch, Powderhorn, Ski Cooper, Sunlight, Wolf Creek through the holidays; for more information, visit www.coloradoski.com or go to the online listings at westword.com.
