“The people who don’t like science all have the same playbook when it comes to attacking it, and that playbook is borrowed from the Holocaust,” says author and geologist Donald Prothero, author of Reality Check: How Science Deniers Threaten Our Future.
It was during the 2008 general election that Prothero noticed links between right-wing strikes on climate change and the antiquated views of fundamentalists who deny evolution. When the Tea Party began to rise to power, Prothero’s response was to write a book meant to educate non-scientists on the scientific process. Disbelievers — specifically those rejecting the theory of evolution, childhood vaccinations and global warming — pose a huge threat to society, he argues, because their attempts to circumvent truth could lead to global catastrophe.

Prothero will speak tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street; a Q&A and book signing will follow. The event is free, and no reservations are required. Visit tatteredcover.com for information.
