The Denver standup community has been turning toward new models of improv and sketch comedy in recent months, with ongoing events like the Buddy, Buddy sketch show at Syntax Physic Opera gaining a toehold in the scene. Now, California transplant Zeke Herrera, who was drawn to the strong camaraderie he observed among our local comics, brings Set Trippin’, a new improv show at which notable Denver talent like Sam Tallent, Nathan Lund and Mara Wiles (not to mention Westword comedy correspondent Byron Graham) take the stage to attempt imagining themselves in untried professions.

“I think it’s an interesting dynamic to have these people do things they’re not used to doing,” Herrera says. “It’s all improvised, and no one knows what they’re going to get until they’re on stage.”

Watch your favorite comics take on new jobs at their awkward, first-time best, beginning tonight at 9:30 p.m. at Deer Pile, 206 East 13th Avenue; Herrera says the show will be a recurring monthly event. Admission is free; visit the Set Trippin’ event page on Facebook for more information.

Tue., Jan. 13, 9:30 p.m., 2015
