Andrew Goldfarb — aka the Slow Poisoner — is unlike any one-man vaudevillian musical act you’ve ever seen. First of all, he gets his inspiration from B horror movies, absinthe-induced hallucinations, dreams, nightmares and the mutterings of San Francisco’s homeless schizophrenic population.
Second, he’s got a miracle tonic available only at his shows, effective in the treatment of elephantiasis, cholera, barnacles, boils, the fits, excessive abscesses, wandering limbs, disinterested bladder, consumption and much more, which he manufactures himself from pure Egyptian oil in his “very clean” bathtub. “I originally was only a dealer and not a user,” he notes, “but when a bottle broke on stage, I sampled it and found that my performance abilities increased tenfold.”
Third, his rootsy (but weird) music is a self-described “marriage of David Bowie and Johnny Cash.” He chose the Slow Poisoner name “because by slowly inserting my music and my art here and there over the long term, I would eventually make a slight subconscious dent in popular culture.” (Slow poisoners were women in the eighteenth century who did away with their husbands by methodically poisoning them over a long period of time.)
Then there are his comic books and vaudevillian signs — but you can see the entire spectacle for yourself tonight at 3 Kings Tavern, 60 South Broadway, as part of Panties at the Bar; the show costs $3 and starts at 8 p.m. Call 3 Kings at 303-777-7352 for details. Goldfarb will also appear at the Laughing Goat, 1709 Pearl Street in Boulder, tomorrow night; for more info, visit www.theslowpoisoner.com.
