I happened upon ColoradoSkiHistory.com on the intertubes last night and found it pretty addictive. I got especially hooked on the comprehensive ski lift database, with stats on every lift in the state, and the “Lost Resorts” coverage.
Random stuff I learned: Defunct Colorado resorts outnumber operating ones 145 to 30, Sharktooth in Greeley (1971-1986) remains the lowest-elevation resort the state has ever seen (it was plagued by dust storms and had a measly 150-foot vertical drop), and the state’s first non-rope-tow lift, made from old mining tram parts, was installed in Gunnison in 1939.
