Summit County’s gold rush days may be long gone (and this season hasn’t exactly been an epic one for the snow rush, either), but the Frisco Gold Rush has been tapping the snow-sports vein in the White River National Forest since 1970, and we’ll happily take our riches where we can find them.
Today’s Nordic races strike out from the Frisco Nordic Center at Lake Dillon’s Peninsula Recreation Area. The 5k and 10k classic cross-country ski races start at 9 a.m., followed by 5k, 10k and 20k ski skate races and a 7k snowshoe race. Registration is $25 per race ($19 if you’re under fifteen or over sixty) and benefits the Summit Nordic Ski Club. Register online at www.emgcolorado.com to avoid a $5 day-of-race late fee. For more information, call 970-668-0866.
