At 6 p.m. tonight on a swatch of dirt in the Ballpark neighborhood, a confederation of carts and trucks will band together for Denver’s first street-food summer bash. It’s an opportunity to eat to your cart’s content from Biker Jim’s, the Biscuit Bus, Steuben’s, the Cupcake Truck, Pinche Tacos, Steamin’ Demon and the Gastro Cart, the seven vendors known as the Justice League of Street Food.
“Denver’s street-food scene is exploding, and this event is all about our street-food vendors reacting to that explosion, supporting one another and throwing a great party,” says Delores Tronco, who’s organizing the cart coalition. The food orgy, supplemented by wines from the Infinite Monkey Theorem and suds from Great Divide Brewery, will also feature lawn games ― think washers and cornhole ― as well as upbeat spins from a local DJ and vintage Justice League cartoons projected on the wall of an old plastic-bag factory. The site of the shindig has been under wraps for a couple of weeks, but will be revealed on our Cafe Society blog on August 15; it will also be the site of several more Justice League events taking place on September 16, October 1 and October 14. (A Halloween party is also in the works, but that date hasn’t been solidified.)
Admission to the party is free; parking is $3, and you’ll pay for what you eat and drink. For more information, watch Westword‘s Cafe Society and follow the Justice League of Street Food on Facebook.
