Although the Avenue Theater has moved around and changed hands now and then, it’s still been a fixture on 17th Avenue for 25 long, good years. To kick off its 25th anniversary season, the Avenue will jump into 2012 with its fifth annual Womens’ Performance Series, a showcase for the “better” half of the stage.
This year, the series will feature a monthlong run of playwright Michele Lowe’s String of Pearls, the story of all the women whose lives are touched by a single strand of pearls over a span of 35 years. And incredibly, only four female actors — Elgin Kelly, Amie Mackenzie, Megan Pettigrew and Samantha Provenzano — handle the play’s 27 roles.
String of Pearls opens tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at the Avenue and continues Thursdays through Sundays, through February 25; a discounted industry-night performance takes place on Monday, February 20. For tickets, which range from $15 to $25, go to the website or call 303-321-5925.
