Sugar is everywhere: From obvious sources like candy and cookies to such hidden culprits as bread and crackers, the white stuff wreaks havoc on the human body. Sugar Blues — a free lecture tonight led by nutritional consultant and health coach Kim McCormack — will drill down into America’s sweet tooth. “This will shock you: Fifty percent of average Americans eat a half-pound of sugar per day. That’s 180 pounds a year,” says McCormack, who will break down the health effects of having a sweet tooth during her talk, and also teach ways to curb it. A graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, a long-time massage therapist and owner of lo-cal wellness business Firebright Health, McCormack will explain the sweetener connection to obesity, diabetes, cancer and various other diseases at tonight’s free Sugar Blues lecture, and also explain what a regimen of whole, unprocessed foods can do to positively impact overall health.
The lecture, hosted by Outdoor Divas at 2317 30th Street in Boulder, starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit firebright-health.com.
