Colorado companies cleaned up at this weekend’s fifth annual IF3 International Freeski Film Festival in Montreal, with Boulder-based Sweetgrass Productions taking Best Cinematography for Solitaire, Denver-based Level 1 Productions winning Best Editing for After Dark, and Boulder-based Stept Productions claiming Best Jib Movie for Weight (the Boulder premiere of Weight is coming up on October 13, 6:40 p.m., at CU’s Math 100 Lecture Hall).
The world premiere of Solitaire at the Gothic Theater sold out last week; catch an encore this Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Boulder Theater ($14 advance, $17.50 day of show) to see all that spectacular cinematography in action, and don’t miss the Westword Show + Tell interview with director Nick Waggoner and producer Zac Ramas.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $20,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.

Level 1 sold out its world premiere, too, earlier this month at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom; your next best bet to catch an After Dark screening in Colorado is on Friday, September 30, at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, during The Meeting ski & snowboard film festival, where you can also catch this year’s IF3 Best Film winner The Grand Bizarre from Poor Boyz Productions and Best Soundtrack winner One For the Road from Teton Gravity Research (see trailers below).
