Julia McClurg loves animals. A lot of people claim similar affinities, but McClurg is serious about her passion. She paints portraits of pets as her business, LuLu Bella, which is named for her Italian greyhound, She creates everything from wall-hanging masterpieces to greeting cards, and has done more than 400 commissioned pet portraits, capturing the spirit of her subjects with cute, contemporary works of art. But the exhibit she’s got hanging at 3 Kings Tavern, 60 South Broadway, goes above and beyond a mere affinity for furry friends and paint.

“It’s called Boston Tea Party,” McClurg explains, “so it’s Boston terriers drinking tea and partying.” The show is a mixture of paintings and prints, and McClurg plans to donate a portion of the proceeds to Table Mountain Animal Center. Her work will be up through the end of the month; to see more of it, visit http://www.lulubellaart.com.
