“When most people think of balloon art, they think of a bouquet of balloons or a simple balloon dog,” says Amanda Dolechek, spokeswoman for the Festival of Balloons. “We want to show them that balloons can really be a form of art; they’re a medium like anything else.”
The festival will feature some of the world’s top balloon artists, who create sculptures and clothing, some with lighting, sound and animation. “They have the most amazing, intricate details that you have to see to believe,” says Dolechek. “We have more than 200 competition pieces that will be on display, and that’s in addition to the general decor created throughout the convention. It’s going to be a really impressive range of balloon-art pieces. Bring your cameras.”
The festival is part of the third annual World Balloon Convention, hosted by Pioneer Balloon Company, and it’s the only year that the convention and the festival will be held in Denver.
Festival of Balloons takes place at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, 1550 Court Place, and is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; admission is $5 for adults, and kids twelve and under get in for free. Visit worldballoonconvention.com for details.
