It’s not a matter of whether there will be doll-on-doll rape in one of the short films at Hueso de Perro’s Halloweird II; it’s a matter of how much doll-on-doll rape there’ll be. “I’ve got this one with a Barbie-doll rape scene in it, and I’m not sure if I should use it,” says Dylan Otto Krider, curator of the festival. “I mean, I’ve already got one with a G.I. Joe rape scene in it. I want to leave room for some variety.”
Not to worry.
Spun in part off last month’s Build-A-Brickbuster Lego animation festival, Halloweird hinges on the shorts that were too racy to make it in to that event: “We didn’t want Lego to back out; they sponsored it,” Krider explains. But nobody of note is sponsoring this, and that leaves room for all sorts of twisted films — all of which will be judged by Patrick Mallek of Boulder’s Mighty Fudge Studios, a man most famous for the Schoolhouse Rock-styled animated short “My First Boner.” And if grotesque stop-motion animation isn’t enough, then stick around for a “Bird Dance” from luchador/host Hueso de Perro, plus the lucha libre-themed Web series from comedian Nick Grossert and a live performance of “Build Motherfucker,” by Carbon Choir bassist Ryan Fechter.
The weirdness begins at 2 p.m. today at Bananalope Coffee, 1405 U.S. Highway 287 in Broomfield. Admission is $5 at the door (which includes coffee or ice cream) and is free for students and the unemployed. For more information, visit www.onesandzerospixelshow.com.
