$20,000

Ah, spring, the time of year when a young person’s fancy turns to love — or, in Colorado, love of bikes. And just in time for the warm weather, Bike Prom is back.

The second annual event combines two Denver obsessions: wearing costumes and riding bikes. This year’s theme, Jocks vs. Nerds, allows guests to reclaim — or refute — their high-school identity as the prom gets rolling. Along the way, there will be music, drinks, dancing and, of course, prom photos. Local photographer George Ferris will bring back his FUNlapse Photobooth from last year, and if you graduated from high school before the Facebook era, here’s your chance to finally be tagged in innumerable photos wearing a corsage.

But unlike in high school, cliques don’t matter at Bike Prom — and it really is okay to bring a friend. So, jocks, get out your old football jerseys, cheerleading outfits and letterman jackets, and nerds, break out the suspenders, glasses and calculators. Doors open at 8 p.m. at the Denver Wheel Club, 404 Broadway, and there’s no need to rent a limo, since plenty of bike parking will be available. Tickets are $10, with proceeds benefiting BikeDenver; visit www.bikedenver.org for details.

Fri., May 18, 8 p.m., 2012
