Colorado is the Napa Valley of beer, so most Coloradans are used to the idea of pairing beer with food. But what about beer in their food? Any chili chef or beer-can-chicken cook will tell you that beer is an easy and delicious secret ingredient, but the 1st Annual Twisted Pine Potluck in Boulder promises to give beer lovers a feel for what the sudsy stuff can do for other recipes, like cookies, stews or even salads.
The potluck will feature around twenty dishes that use various styles of Twisted Pine beer as an ingredient — a challenge when it comes to offerings like Billy’s Chilies, Big Shot Espresso Stout or Raspberry Wheat Ale. “Hopefully, people will get creative,” says the brewery’s Mike Sims. “I have a friend who makes his ramen noodles with Billy’s Chilies, which is kind of crazy. It’s a great marinating beer.”
Prizes will be awarded for the best dishes. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the brewery, 3201 Walnut Street, and is free for anyone who brings a dish, although cooks need to make enough for 35 to 50 people; otherwise, it’s $5 per person, which will be donated to the Emergency Family Assistance Association. For more information, call the brewery at 303-786-9270.
