It’s a sad fact of living in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains that most urban teens will never experience them. Big City Mountaineers is a Denver-based youth development organization that pairs urban teens (13-18) with adult mentors and sends them packing in groups of five adults and five teens for five and seven day wilderness adventures.

The mission is to “Enhance the lives of under-resourced urban teens through transformative outdoor experiences.” But rest assured: When it comes to transformation, the adult mentors in the program get at least as much out of these adventures as the teens.

Find out why tonight at the REI at 1416 Platte Street, where Big City Mountaineers will be looking for a few good men and women to participate as volunteer mentors on 7-day summer backpacking adventures in Colorado this July.

All expeditions begin and end in Denver and travel to wilderness areas in Colorado or Wyoming. Applications accepted from new volunteers who live within 200 miles of Denver.

Tonight’s informational meeting starts at 6 p.m.
