After hitting the ball out of the park twice in fascinating form with This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession and The World in Six Songs: How the Musical Brain Created Human Nature, Renaissance man Daniel Levitin — a musician, neuroscientist, behavioral psychologist and author — takes a break from exploring the music/science connection to delve into another subject he clearly understands very well. In The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload, Levitin turns his intellect loose on a science-based primer about keeping things straight in a world where everything moves at a rapid pace. Through the course of the book, he investigates everything from bringing simplicity to our social lives by finding a balance between planning and acting spontaneously to how we can prepare our tech-savvy kids to navigate the escalating barrage of information better than we do ourselves.
Levitin will speak and sign copies of The Organized Mind tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl Street in Boulder; because space is limited, a $5 voucher good toward your purchase of the book is required for entry.
