Suppose you, living in Denver, had the opportunity to put on a play, a really good play — not here, but in the picturesque and remote town of Baltimore, West County Cork, Ireland. You’d do it, wouldn’t you? You’d toss all caution to the sprightly wind and go. That’s what directors Kenny Storms and Kate Roselle will do, later this summer, when they pack up their provocative version of Edward Albee’s one-act Zoo Story, which features Denver actors Laurence Curry and Brian Landis Folkins switching roles as characters Peter and Jerry. Storms, who says he hooked up with the folks at Glebe Gardens (a Baltimore public garden and organic cafe with an outdoor amphitheater) while attending a wedding there, was invited to help run their small arts festival. “So I decided,” he says, “If not now, when?” Zoo Story will be one of about four plays scheduled.

But in the meantime, it costs a lot of gold to take even the smallest production overseas, and to that end, Storms and crew will throw A Night With the Zoo, an informal fundraising party and raffle featuring filmed show clips and interviews with the cast and crew, at Globeville Studios, 635 Santa Fe Drive, tonight from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door; e-mail purehigharts@gmail.com for information.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $20,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
