Seeking a way to celebrate the Democratic National Convention, Tai Beldock decided to throw a viewing party. Her business — the Erico Motorsports dealership in a 20,000-square-foot 1930s warehouse north of Coors Field — seemed like the perfect venue from which to watch Obama speak on a big-screen TV. To add to the festivities, she decided to kick off the party with a politically charged scooter ride.

But as the convention drew closer, Beldock became a little disheartened by newspaper stories suggesting that the city might try to hide or push homeless people out of town that week. Tai and her husband, John, have owned the warehouse for the past fifteen years, and they’ve had a lot of daily interaction with the neighborhood’s homeless, who often sleep under the docks until it’s time to open the store each morning. Wanting to help in whatever small way she could, Tai decided to charge $10 admission to Scoot the Vote and give all of the money to Denver’s Road Home program.

You don’t need a scooter or a political affiliation to attend the party, which starts at 7 p.m. at 2855 Walnut Street — but those who want to join the scooter ride should come at 5:30. Prizes will be awarded for the best political T-shirt (Beldock’s personal favorite says “Draft Republicans First”) and most creatively decorated political scooter. Complimentary food and drink will be provided by the Spicy Pickle and Peroni beer. Call 303-887-1647 or visit www.ericomotorsports.com; RSVP to lisak@ericomotorsports.com.
