Dan Witherspoon may have left the dating scene a long time ago (try fourteen years!), but he knows a thing or two about stirring up romance. First, food and wine are sexy. And second, orchestrated meet-and-greets can quickly turn into awkward disasters unless there’s a welcome distraction.
That’s why he’s created Gourmet Spooning, which is essentially a speed-dating cooking class. Tonight at the Seasoned Chef Cooking School, groups of four thirty-something singles — two men and two women — will work at cooking stations, shifting every twenty minutes to meet new partners. Staff will be there to prevent culinary and social disasters, throwing in ice-breakers whenever the room gets too quiet. And when the preparation is done, the singles will feast on a four-course meal paired with wine.
Even if the singles don’t meet their match, they’ll leave knowing how to make dishes — such as baked herbed shrimp en croute with a duet of curried red pepper and yellow-pepper coulis — sure to impress future dates.
The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. at 999 Jasmine Street, suite 100, and costs $75. Forty-somethings are invited to spoon on July 27, and fifty-somethings on September 7. Call 303-394-0167 to RSVP; for information, visit www.thegourmetspoon.com.
