It’s been seven years since Boulder’s Frequent Flyers aerial dance troupe put on its sophisticated, Halloween-friendly show Theatre of the Vampires, partly because it’s so costly to stage. “The production qualities are high, and it’s expensive for a reason — it’s the real deal,” notes Frequent Flyers founder Nancy Smith. But that didn’t stop her from bringing it back this year, for a one-night-only stand at Macky Auditorium.
For those who enjoyed the show in the past and want to see it again, the all-new production remains true to the original script (inspired by Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire), but features a combination of talented new dancers and professional actors, along with plenty of the breathtaking up-in-the-air choreography expected from Frequent Flyers.
“It makes for a great date night or outing for a group of people; it’s a big, sexy, sensual, dark and campy and original production, with lots of thrills and chills and laughs,” says Smith. “It’s early enough in the evening that you can still go out afterward, and it’s also great for teens who are too old for trick-or-treating and too young for the bar scene.”
