“Over hill, over dale, thorough bush, thorough brier/Over park, over pale, thorough flood, thorough fire/I do wander everywhere….” Take it from A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Exercise and Shakespeare go together.
The Denver Botanic Gardens and Theatre-Hikes Colorado will prove it this summer with their second season of themed Sunset Strolls — tonight featuring roving performances during which the actors and the audience walk to a new setting for each scene in a play.
“The actors stop, do a scene, and pack it on up and head to a different part of the gardens to do another scene,” says Michelle Reilly of the DBG. “It’s a really fun time. The first performance [last summer] had 100 audience members. By the end of the summer, there were between 300 and 400 people showing up.”
Sunset Strolls kicks off with A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 6 p.m. at the gardens, 1007 York Street. Admission is $12.50 for adults, $9 for students and seniors, and free for children under three. Guests who get in on the fun and dress up as the Bard, a fairy, or Puck will get a dollar off the admission price. Visit botanicgardens.org.
