When it comes to apocalyptic fiction, zombies and vampires have both had ample opportunity to wreak world-ending havoc. Now’s the time for werewolves to have their chance.
“Werewolves have terrified me since I was little,” says Travis Heermann, author of The Wild Boys. “Something about werewolves, people who can shape-change into animals — something about that is maybe built in to us. We respond to it on a very deep level.”
Those shapeshifters come to life in The Wild Boys thanks to a bio-engineered plague that tilts the balance in nature against humanity, knocking us down a notch on the food chain. A young half-Japanese girl comes face-to-face with this new reality when her only friend is murdered and three lost boys show up on her doorstep, naked and in need of help.
