Bob White got into art by accident. He started a vinyl and CD business in 1998. In the process, he taught himself graphic design, and soon he’d replaced his original concept with a design company that did advertising for small businesses. As he snapped and edited more and more pictures, he found himself drawn to subjects that had nothing to do with his clients. “Most of it’s pretty dark,” he says of his photography. “I don’t shoot any people. I shoot a lot of decaying signs and dolls, a lot of things that seem neglected.”

In 2004, White started Bad Art for Bad People as a way for artists who had never shown their work before to do so outside of the traditional gallery setting, in an environment that’s a little less stuffy and a little more fun — with booze and live entertainment. To kick off the 2008 season, White will do a solo show at the Continental Club, 475 Santa Fe Drive. He says it’s his knowledge of digital manipulation, much more than his photographic skills, that gives his work its flavor. “Some of them are montages, and almost everything gets some manipulation, but they tend to maintain an organic look,” he says.

White’s photos will be on display through April 5; for more information, call 720-524-6904 or go to www.bobwhitephotographics.com.
