Independent Journalism in Denver Needs You
We need to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
“Denver has a lot of talented and generous chefs,” says Sheila Lucero, executive chef of Jax Fish House in Denver and Boulder, “but I really wanted to create something a little more intimate for the guests that would include a fun group of female chefs.”
Welcome to Females on Fire, a collaboration of girl power that will celebrate female chefs and the female force — and raise money for a culinary scholarship with dinners at both Jax locations. The dinners, which cost $100 per person, feature a cocktail hour, five courses and wines from Elyse Winery. Participating chefs cooking at the Denver event, which takes place tonight at 6 p.m., include Elise Wiggins (Panzano), Mary Nguyen (Parallel 17), Aniedra Nichols (Elway’s Cherry Creek), and Kathleen Kenny Davia (Gateaux), along with cocktologist Anika Zappe from Root Down. The second event, featuring a new set of chefs, takes place in Boulder at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
Proceeds will go toward the Females on Fire Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to a female student pursuing a culinary arts degree at Johnson & Wales University.
“We may be few and far between, but when we’re present, I think we bring a great balancing presence to the kitchen,” says Lucero. For more details, go to www.jaxfishousedenver.com and click on the Events heading.
