$20,000

Professional actors take their work seriously; in turn, they hope to have that work respected by their audiences. But once in a while, even the best of the best like to let their hair down and have a little fun. In the case of Miscast — a local tradition that dates back to annual shows hosted by the late, great Next Stage and Paragon Theatre companies — the fun might seem silly, but it’s also a benefit for theatrical causes. This year’s show, happening for one night only at the Aurora Fox, is a fundraiser for the Denver Actors Fund, a nonprofit started by John Moore as a way to provide situational relief for members of the performing community who are experiencing medical crises. Though DAF grants and services are small, they can make all the difference for theater folks who can’t quite pay the bills or run their own errands during an emergency.

To that end, hosts Mark Pergola and Damon Guerrasio (currently in Dylan Goes Electric at Miners Alley in Golden) will call to the stage a series of locals performing in uncharacteristic roles with hilarious results, beginning tonight at 7 p.m. at the Fox, 9900 East Colfax Avenue in Aurora. Tickets are $10; go to aurorafoxartscenter.org to make a reservation.

Mon., Sept. 29, 7 p.m., 2014
