It’s hard to believe that Ironton Studios and Gallery put the River North arts district on the map eleven years ago, but it’s true. And to celebrate that milestone, Ironton is presenting a straightforwardly titled show of its members, Ironton Group Show & Party, which opens this evening. “With the events we have -- ten shows a year -- the space is really maturing, the gardens are maturing, and RiNo is really coming into its own, too,” says artist and gallery director Jill Hadley Hooper.

The festivities kicking off the Fourth of July weekend are an annual event at Ironton. “The party is really great and there’s a fabulous view of the fireworks at Coors Field,” Hooper says. “We’re not downtown, but we’re pretty close -- and, unlike downtown, we’ve got plenty of free parking.”

The artists in the show, who will be exhibiting new work, all have studios at Ironton, including two new residents -- Chase DeForest, a furniture-maker, and Yoshitomo Saito, a sculptor. “There wasn’t a curator,” notes Hooper. “Instead, it’s been pretty collaborative, with each artist being given a certain amount of space.” The reception runs from 7 to 11 p.m. at Ironton, 3636 Chestnut Place.
