If you’ve never experienced the cute mountain town that is Crested Butte, now’s your chance to take in its rich backdrop of snowcapped peaks and pines and aspens again — and again and again and again. The Bridges of the Butte 24-Hour Townie Tour is not a race. It’s a relaxed social and scenic bike tour that crosses picturesque bridges in downtown Crested Butte around a 2.4-mile course for about 100 laps, or 24 hours, to raise money for the Adaptive Sports Center program that teaches adaptive skiing in Argentina for people with disabilities.

ASC development coordinator Ella Fahrlander says that while most tour participants come in large teams, with each member doing a lap or two, some ride the full 24 hours alone, stopping only to eat and answer nature’s call. Spectators come out to see the bikers’ costumes: Superheroes are always out in full force, as are the firefighters who come with sirens and all their gear. Last year, the all-night race — it runs from 3 p.m. today to 3 p.m. tomorrow — took place during a full moon, and some teams had a lot of fun with that, Fahrlander recalls.

Registration is $24 and can be done online at www.active.com. For information, go to www.adaptivesports.org. Participants who raise at least $250 in pledges are eligible for prizes, including a two-night stay at the 10th Mountain Division Hut, a pizza party at the Firehouse Grill or a Crested Butte Mountain Resort Gold Pass.
