My father was a mountain-biking freak. He'd jet from Littleton up to Conifer on what he called a "short ride," and he was a dynamic presence at the ride-across-the-state cycling events in which he participated. He'd occasionally try to get me to join him on these week-long "adventures," and I'd always laughingly decline. Me? On a bicycle? In the mountains? For a week? Dad, you're crazy.

But now Blacktop Bicycle Tours has set up a week of cycling suited for enthusiasts of all ability levels — even me! The Frisco UPnBACK — seven days of pedaling through the scenic Rocky Mountains — starts today and runs through July 14, and each day's ride begins and ends at the Snowshoe Motel, 521 East Main Street in Frisco. Participants can choose the routes that best suit their goals; registration is $45 and includes a shirt, route maps, a picnic in the park and more. Visit www.blacktopbicycletours.com for information.
