“Every year of the Colorado Burlesque Festival has been amazing,” says Honey Touché, one of the organizers, “but I really feel like everything is on steroids this year.” And that’s appropriate since the country’s reigning Queen of Burlesque (aka Miss Exotic World) is Denver’s own Midnite Martini, who will perform the act with which she won the crown. The current boylesque king, Mr. Handsome, will also be performing. But that is far from all that the fifth year of the festival has to offer attendees.

“Lola Frost from Canada is one of our headliners, and we have a boylesque group from Albuquerque with a super-awesome act,” Touche says. “And Miss Orchid Mei is performing, too. I don’t want to say what she’s doing and give it away, but that alone will be worth the ticket price.”

It’s a solid mix of out-of-town talent and hometown heroes, including burlesque legend Gail Winds. “I think it’s important to pay homage to the people who paved the way for us,” Touché notes, “and the general public doesn’t often get to see them.”

There will also be classes, music and much more; the festival runs today through Sunday at assorted venues in Denver (but mostly at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street). Visit coloradoburlesquefestival.com to browse activities and ticket prices.
