Completing a 5K run is hard enough for a lot of people, but if that’s not enough of a challenge for you, consider the Devil Dash, which mixes a 5K with fourteen man-made and natural obstacles and carries the seven deadly sins as a theme. “We think it’ll be a mix of athletes and people who just want to have a little fun,” says run founder Will Newcomer. “We thought we’d challenge people in a lot of different ways.”

Those ways include such obstacles as river crossings, leaping through fire, and a mud pit. The race, which takes place in Lyons, is open to anyone over the age of fourteen, with each age group getting a prize. Racers will take off in waves throughout the day, so don’t worry about obstacles getting too clogged up if you’re going for the glory.

The Devil Dash takes place in Bohn Park, 219 Second Avenue in Lyons; racing begins at 10 a.m. Registration, which is online only, ends at 6 a.m. on October 6; the cost is $75 and includes a number of souvenirs and access to the beer garden after the race. For in-formation and registration, visit www.devildash.com or call 970-403-5320.
