The four-mile run/walk, which blasts off at 8 a.m. from the south end of the park, will be followed by the Firecracker Kids Fun Run, and then ends -- like any proper Fourth of July party -- with food and drink. There will be awards for the top runners in every category, including the timely Best Display of USA (World Cup notwithstanding, this is our national day of reminder that you don't have to be a soccer hooligan to rock your countrys colors).
Registration is 100 George Washingtons for a Fourth for the Fourth four-pack (four runners), $25 for seniors and youth under seventeen, or $33 per adult, and includes a HydraPouch: The Liberty Run went green last year as the first cupless road run in the U.S. Pre-register online at RunningGuru.com or at any of the Runners Roost shops. The Firecracker Run is free; just light the fuse and let the kids burn themselves out.
