“Aida sets a shining example of true devotion that transcends the cultural differences of race and, ultimately, time itself,” says Ignite Theatre director Keith Rabin of the new show at the Aurora Fox. “I’m really excited to be bringing Elton John's and Tim Rice’s Aida to the stage, because it’s amazing to be able to take a story that takes place in ancient times and put a modern spin on the music, costumes and even the scenic design.”

The four-time Tony Award-winning musical based on Verdi’s opera tells the star-crossed story of the unlikely love triangle between Amneris, the Pharaoh’s daughter; Radames, captain of the Egyptian army; and Aida, an enslaved Nubian princess. As forbidden love blossoms between Aida and Radames, the young lovers must choose between love, responsibility and death. A drama like that deserves a dramatic backdrop: “We’ll be transforming the lobby into a museum-like Egyptian exhibit featuring Egyptian artifacts on loan from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science,” says Rabin.
