Picking up the trash: help clean up the South Platte River Sunday

In the spirit of Earth Day, this Sunday, April 25, will be the fourth annual South Platte River Cleanup. Registration for the event begins at 9:00, and the actual cleanup goes from 11:00 to 3:00, followed by an after-party from 3:00 to 5:00, with a raffle for prizes donated by companies like Clif Bar and Confluence Kayaks starting at 4:00.

The all-volunteer event attracts hundreds of people to clean up a both the South Platte River and the South Platte bike path. The put in as at the Union Avenue Boat Chutes. You can float the river in rafts or kayaks, or hike or bike the bike path alongside, picking up trash. In previous events, over six tons of trash has been removed..

There is a complimentary shuttle bus in the morning that runs from the take out at Habitat Park, at South Jason Street and Exposition Avenue to the put in at Union Avenue, just west of Santa Fe.
